Don’t be! I don’t and I’m white. Feel guilty if you’ve personally been racist to someone or done something bad to someone. Treat people as you would like to be treated yourself, in simple terms. If we all remembered that, and just acted on it, the world will would be so much better, much less complicated, oh and a lot more peaceful too.

I think that there can be a tendency for whites to feel guilty as we learn about white privilege, but just feeling guilty doesn’t help anyone. If you feel like you have a responsibility as an individual to try and better our society, then find some way to be an anti-racism advocate; read more about race in America, challenge stereotypes, start conversations about race with your friends, step outside your comfort zone, volunteer for a cause, protest, sign a petition, write a blog, etc. Turn that guilt into something that has transformative power.
