    And even scientists sometimes experience superstitious impulses. I think that our brains’ instinct is to deal with the world by building correlations and associations, even if we can logically understand that they’re unfounded. These include stereotypes, racist or otherwise. Being aware of this instinct, and being able to reject it’s spurious conclusions, is key.

    Exactly. I’m not a racist but certain events such as the Zimmerman trial forces me to make racist comments.
