    Poverty is often a lifestyle choice. The prejudice exists for that reason.

      This is absolutely not true. No one ever *chooses* to live in poverty. >:(

        People choose poverty all of the time. Ever see a poor person smoke a pack of cigarettes a day? Then complain about not having a car despite that person spending over $2500 a year on cigarettes? And this is just one example. Surely, you can think of more irresponsible behaviors that lock people into their own chosen poverty lifestyle. Spending money on lottery tickets or going out to eat instead of preparing food and saving the difference, going without luxuries instead of putting them on credit, etc etc etc.
