White guilt doesn’t work on me.

Eric Vonhoussen
Richmond, VA

Let’s be honest. This website isn’t about anything else, but making white people feel guilty and ashamed to be white. Well, my friends, I’m proud to be white, and proud of my people’s accomplishments. it doesn’t mean I’m racist. ( yes you can be both proud of being white and not be racist.) My friends come in all different shapes, sizes, colors, and backgrounds. If you’re nice to me, I’m nice to you. This whole movement of white guilt is absolutely shameful, though. I know this post is going to be taken down because it makes too much sense, but oh well. Hopefully someone sees it and gets the point. Be proud of who you are! White people have accomplished so much, and if focus on just the negative, that’s all you will see.

Keep the conversation going - comment and discuss with your thoughts

Eric I don’t want to rain on your parade but guess what this website isn’t about making white people feel guilty, AT ALL. If you really open up to this I think you will understand. Really your making yourself sound racist by using the stereotype that white are. You should know that race dosen’t even really exist it is a social construct.

    • PhillyStateCollege

Jose if race doesn’t “really exist” and is just a “social construct” then why is it so all-fired important for militant politically-correct liberals like Michelle Norris to permanently deconstruct white countries by inundating them with third-worlder trash in order ultimately to make them non-white majorities? You can’t have it both ways.

      • Read Queen

Norris is the tragic mulatto-ish, female counterpart of Michael Dyson and Al Sharpton. Their manufactured, pseudo-positions are gone without minority special rights and race card politics.

    • moffab

YES Jose! I agree, my six words were: There is only one race: Human. However, it will take serious social de-construction to change this…This page is a start

      • c684570

Uh, you realize that lipid readings need to be adjusted by race in medical test results, right? RACE EXISTS. Try telling your bone marrow transplant surgeon that it doesn’t.

    • Mack0

Yes it is. Its futile to deny it.

  • PhillyStateCollege

Well said Eric! White people have nothing to apologize for, nothing to be ashamed of, and everything to be proud of! White guilt is for nerds!

    • kory

Haha NERDS! I love I said nerds . I use that as my go to. It’s not offensive but straight to the point . Calling people nerds is an army thing. I wouldn’t want to be called a nerd lol

  • Kerby Hendricks

Eric I’m glad you are proud to be White. I am proud to be Black. I do not think you are racist to be proud of being white. I’m sure if we met, we would get along just fine. There are really prejudiced people in every race, and some like you and I who take each person as they are and judge that individual solely for his or her actions.

    • c684570

Color-blindness is not allowed. White people are forced to coddle people of color. It’s sickening. I refuse to waddle in guilt over crimes of people – real or imagined – who happened to share my skin color. In fact, the very expectation that I would have to is in and of itself complete racism.

And anyone who wants to imbue me with White Guilt is taking a major risk, because I consider it a form of psychological abuse.

      • Kerby Hendricks

Yup, I get what you are saying. There is no connection at all to what I wrote earlier at all, since I think the notion of ” color blindness” is a sham. I would add that trying to accuse me of reverse racism will get you nowhere with me. I treat people the way I want to be treated. I am who I am. God made me, and I believe he made everyone else. I’m nobody to look at Gods creation, made in his image and hate that creation, even if that creation hates me.

  • Kiyannah

race is something that was started by society. Most of the things you brought up on your race card in my opinion are true. But there are some negatives to the history of white people.

    • Mack0

The white people that exist now aren’t responsible for what was done by other people who happen to share their color. Are you responsible for the actions of other people who share your color? Would you like to be judge for their actions? I doubt it very much.

  • Mari

Eric you are missing the point about this site. It’s about creating an open discussion around race issues. As you’ll note on many of the cards, people have been speaking out against racism between minorities. While I certainly haven’t read every card on the site, I have yet to see one that points a finger at all white people and says “it’s all your fault; you’re horrible people”. You talk about how people shouldn’t only focus on the negative, but it seems like your card is.

    • Mari

I can’t tell whether you’re saying I’m against racism committed by white people, against racism committed towards white people, or don’t believe in some sort of anti-white racism. Next time you try to insult someone you might want to make a more cogent attack.

      • Mari

Considering I am white, that would be completely ridiculous.

        • LACounty

Lots of Whites hate Whites. How can that be ridiculous? Lots of Blacks hate blacks.

        • c684570

You are most likely a guilty, treasonous White.

    • Mack0

No it isn’t. They’ve been trying these kind of things since the sixties and they are always pointless exercises in blame and shame.

    • Thor Bonham

Actually, YOU are missing the point ..

    • Massif1

My Chinese made shoes are terrible. All Chinese are therefore terrible.

    • c684570

False. This site has EVERYTHING to do with making White people feel guilty.

    • Vanessa Julia Lutz

In our society today, good people with different views are not
expressing themselves for fear of being called out as racist. If people would return to logic based discussion, rather
than insults and name calling based on ones views, perhaps we could
return to a functioning system, both politically and socially.

  • Susan

The saying is usually “no snowflake in an avalanche feels responsible” but with some of the reactions you see from people when we talk about oppressive issues at all, I think it’s more like “no snowflake in an avalanche wants to even think about ever being responsible.”

    • c684570

Yeah, I wasn’t part of avalanches that happened decades or even centuries before I was born JUST BECAUSE OF THE COLOR OF MY SKIN. You vile racist.

    • dd121

If you really feel why not immigrate to an African country where you can live in racial harmony. If your’re white please note that in black run South Africa the blacks don’t even investigate crimes where whites have been murdered by blacks.

    • My ancestors have nothing to do with that. They weren’t even in America when that happened. I should feel guilt by association???

  • Iris

It’s true. I’m mixed and I agree. I was told at my place of employment that I don’t know what it’s like to be a slave. Which is right, I don’t. But neither does the dumb b**** who threatened bodily harm towards me but accused me of saying you people… And that’s a racist comment really. I didn’t say it however I have heard blacks say it. The Race card is pulled by Black to get an advantage over all other races. If this country want to not repeat the past or regress or get worse everyone needs to stop playing the race card & grow up. Whites get the worst rep. I don’t see this country as having a female, Hispanic or Asian president! Our president is what!!! Voted in by a lot of whites and other races too. Yea, STOP PLAYING THE RACE CARD BECAUSE its just going to cause recentment & our child and their children to suffer. Look how far this country has come compare to the rest of the world. Whenever you’re feeling ugly or want to knock another read a Mother Teresa quote & have a coke & a smile.

    • The next person who threatens you in your place, you need to go to HR or EEO. You can file EEO against them and your management if they do nothing about it. It doesn’t only work one way. That wasn’t right and work place bullying or violence should not be tolerated no matter the race.

  • John

I remember doing a cultural diversity module as part of one of my courses and being really enthusiastic about it. As we got further into it though it became more about shaming white people than making life better for humans, regardless of their skin color. At one point the whole class was saying that Australia day was stupid and unnecessary and one woman said “You’re Australian, who cares?”.

Which is so stupid. Australia is a wonderful place to live. People have freedom of religion, sexuality and education. In such a short time we’ve developed and adapted and changed our policies so much and we still acknowledge that we’ve got a long way to go. More funding that a lot of countries goes into our efforts to create equality. I have a friend who grew up in an Islamic country as a Christian (he is a dark-skinned man with an Arabic accent because apparently that makes his experience more valid). His life was endangered because of his faith. So he left. In Australia he has complete religious freedom and he couldn’t be more thankful. He loves Australia day, because Australia it gave him the freedom that every human should have. On Australia day, he celebrates that freedom.

It’s not a perfect country, no country is perfect. If you look into the foundation of most countries it was a brutal, unethical conquering with bloodshed at some point. Our foundation was more recent, but it followed the same trend as most others. But the idea that we can’t even feel proud or happy or thankful and express that thanks and patriotism is ridiculous.

People seem to forget that multiculturalism includes white people. That white people have culture and love and music and art and they are allowed to enjoy it without apologizing for something they didn’t actually have any involvement in every step of the way.

    • olblue9

Good card, good reply…a lot of good folks down south feel the same. ‘Coarse they have toted the politically correct load for a long time.

Slavery still exists in Africa, Middle East, and Asia. If you have white guilt you can move to a 3rd world country and enjoy diversity.

  • c684570

I consider White Guilt to be a form of psychological abuse and I make that extremely clear to my politically correct friends. They will not pull this on me, that’s for darn sure.

I guess the Civil Rights movement has nothing to run on any more, so it has mutated into a White Guilt movement. So basically, it is running on fumes right now, but noxious fumes which are offending a lot of White people. What we are seeing now is a significant amount of blow back.

    • Governmental Deception

I guess you never heard of psychological warfare then. Mind manipulation add a little social engineering to it and Obozo’s has trendy liberal whites in the bag. The zombies are falling for it all the way.

  • dd121

Whites have invented and created just about everything worth noting on this earth.

Yeah, like Arabic numerals, gunpowder, paper, the printing press, the compass, writing, calendars, irrigation, the carbon filament originally used in light bulbs, 3D graphics, gas masks, elevators, electret microphones, etc. etc.

All invented by white people, right?

I must say, this website does a great job of revealing the ignorance of the masses. As a white person, I don’t have any right — or experience –to talk about what its like for a POC to live in America. Of course I don’t see my privilege! I am blind to it, like a fish is unaware that he is in water. I did not own slaves, but I continue to benefit from systems that were created by my people, for my people. I have run across very few POC who want me to feel guilty or think it would be of benefit to anyone if I feel guilty. Choosing to LISTEN or not to listen to another’s experience is in and of itself an example of privilege. Thinking that everyone’s experience is the same as mine is an example of privilege. This notion that I”m not going to feel guilty for being white is an example of ignorance – pure and simple. God bless you for you know not what you speak of.

    • olblue9

I have not benefited from any type of privilege. The only privilege that I see is wealth privilege. The only color of privilege is green. Many “blacks” are born into a more privileged lifestyle than mine each year, yet you demand that I am the privileged one? Keep your “white guilt” for yourself, and I will continue to look upon each person as an individual. Not as victimized POC, and ignorant privileged “whites”.

  • c684570

I’m tired of being judged based on my skin color!

  • Carl Yard

Eric,I totally agree with a lot of what you said. But the site is not
about making white people feel guilty..Yes there are some post on here
that aim to do that…This is the one thing i wish would change about
America……Just because a few people from a certain group say or do
some thing you blame the entire group….Not fair.

  • Scott James

I am a proud white man. White people deserve privilege in the countries we built. Stone age people all over the planet were displaced by people who advanced beyond them. Only whites gave them places to keep their cultures alive. Nonwhites killed the men and assimilated the women and children. The only privilege whites enjoy in our countries is the privilege of being taxed to give non whites wealth. They do not deserve it. Whites owe them nothing. Arabs, Jews, and blacks enslaved Africans for thousands of years and then whites got involved for a few hundred years and then ended the international African slave trade. Blaming us for it is just dumb. White people have done more for people who do not look like us than all the non white groups combined.

Every nation whites built is being filled with non whites at a rate that soon no white people will be in charge of their own destinies. This is simply anti white racism. White women have been tricked into thinking with their emotions about this issue and are the most likely white people to be anti white. Diversity is a weakness not a strength.

Nations sprung up around ethnic and language lines for a reason. People not like us are dangerous to us. This is true of every group. In the West we are all able to barely get along because of the plentiful bounty that exists because of white peoples hard work. If whites are not in charge this bounty will go away. The evidence this is true is legion and denying it means you are not a critical thinker. Once scarcity is here ethnic groups will form and start killing each other for the limited resources available. History is real clear on this and thinking we have evolved past is stupid.

The hostile elite that controls the media and financial system in the West hates white people. They are filling our nations up with non whites and teaching them that whites are responsible for all their problems. If whites allow ourselves to be made minorities in our own nations our children and grandchildren will not be safe.

I wish I was wrong and all of you diversity is a strength people were correct but you are wrong. All the evidence shows you are wrong and nothing shows you are right. It is time to end all non white immigration into all white nations and to deport everyone who is not a citizen. We also need to demand that any of the citizens who are trying to keep the culture they came from to assimilate or get out. This is what happened to any European who came to America and tried to keep their old culture. America was a stronger nation because of it. Nations are not land they are what people build on the land and whites built the USA so spare me the whole we stole this nation from natives tripe. They were stone age people who fell 20,000 years behind because of their tribalism and there was zero chance they were going to keep a continent. If Europeans had not built a nation here Asians would have. The difference being that there would be none of their culture left and no one to complain. The natives are lucky it was Europeans who came here.

The USA was built by white people for white people. This is just a fact and if you don’t like it too bad. The tide is changing. White people are tired of the double standard and we are pushing back, Get used to it because we will only be pushing harder in the future

  • Sweet Georgia

If you think racism isn’t an issue, see Scott James entry below. And another white guy saying ” he doesn’t want to be judged by the color of his skin!! OMG!! • LadyMillard

I am surprised by most of these posts. To me it is not about collectivism -because you can’t get everyone to agree on one reality- but it’s more about giving people freedom. Objectivism is better practice. We are not living in a reasonable time. Racism is just another way to send hatred to a group of people who look different. We always find ways to identify the predator… Fairness is a learned and innate behavior. Racism would exist even if there was no race.

  • Dayton Waters

    Sums it up.

  • Courtney Saint Alexander Ellis

Thank you for that, I am tired of people who have done nothing to me feeling guilty!

  • mire7

No one can change history, so everyone feels guilty regardless of race. It is useless to feel this type of “guilt” and we should all embrace ourselves as a community instead of separating us.

  • Adam

I don’t know exactly what to feel guilty of. It’s not me but the institutions, economy and legal system. It’s what I am on paper. I don’t need to feel guilty for what the papers do. But as far as feeling angry and upset at what the papers mean, sure, I don’t like being ‘white’. I don’t think there are ‘white people’ or ‘black people’, but I think there are cultural histories, ethnicities, traditions. I think it’s politically powerful for there to be a ‘black community’ but no ‘white’ community; for the identity we’re talking about here to be self-labeled as ‘black’ is politically powerful and often appropriate. I don’t think it’s appropriate to call myself white and I think it’s wrong to claim I have an identity that’s defined by ‘whiteness’. I have no whiteness except on paper. If I called myself white, I’d be saying my skin color means something to me. I can’t go off of skin color alone to determine what anyone’s cultural background and ethnicity are. I can’t say that every ‘black’ person experiences no white privilege, or less than me. That’s not true. The culture is not homogenous in this regard. So don’t ask me to judge every ‘black’ person as less fortunate than me because that ain’t the way it is. There are many who are much more fortunate than me and who experience more privilege than I do. So what do I needa feel guilt for? Especially when my people, the Italian Americans, only ever chose, on paper, to identify themselves as ‘caucasian’ and never truly identified with America’s racist way of doing things. They saw it as a political game that they had no choice but to play along with. And at the time, that was entirely true. So tell me to be mad at the system, like Ice Cube, Nina Simone and Wu tang Clan, if they tickle your fancy as they do mine. They may not, as I said the culture’s not homogenous. Don’t tell me to hate myself for something I’m not and that none of my people never really felt they were.

Guilt is not a powerful motivator people.

  • Adam

I did some more thinking on this. “White Privilege” is a psychological delusion that most Americans experience, at some time in their life, in response to the realization that race is a social construct. This delusion creates social tensions and reinforces the delusional thinking that comes with thinking race exists, and in turn, the delusion becomes a reality. Gentrification and White Flight are easily a result of it. It makes anyone with ‘light skin’ feel very uncomfortable talking to anyone with ‘dark skin’, in that they unconsciously think they’ll be perceived as ‘white’ or expected to be ‘white’. It makes any person with ‘dark skin’ more uncomfortable around any person with ‘light skin’ in that they are unconsciously afraid of being perceived as ‘black’. That is, afraid of being stereotyped and derided. Basically what i’m saying is: White Privilege is a euphemism for covert racism, and that is misdirected at the system, which is generally just blind capitalism. This racism is fueled by the emotions between the two groups that turned out completely unjustified, complete fabrication within the country’s social contract. It’s the hesitance to accept that people are not ‘black’ or ‘white’, that it’s not that simple. And the more we don’t acknowledge it as covert racism on all sides, the more it becomes an economic, institutional and legal reality. It produces social anxiety. It is there, in the system, but it’s not written into law, just perpetuated by the idea of it, the theory of it. The authority behind the theory is problematic in a society that gets most of its information from the top 1%. Very few liberal news outlets show the critiques of this theory by philosophers and linguists and marxist sociologists, and very few conservative outlets acknowledge that there’s racism at all.

  • Vanessa Julia Lutz

Thank you, I live in NYC and white guilt is forced down my throat. you took a risk in writing this, I am sure everyone wants to call you a racist. So Thank you for actually taking a stand.

  • Steven Anthony

Well said and I completely agree with you in that you should not be ashamed to be who you are. Nobody ever seems to talk about the white people who actually marched with African Americans during the many civil rights protests. We’re all in this together 🙂

  • Bunny Lefluf

no one.. and this is for everyone.. no one should be made to feel guilty about a race they were born.. making someone feel guilty for their race.. is racism in itself.

    • Jayme Franklin

  • Jayme Franklin

I’m Croatian-Black-Scottish-Irish-Choctaw. I’m proud of all of my ethnicities! And so should everyone else. America is the melting pot, after all.
I do feel that certain things and people (Obama) have taken us back decades, and it breaks my heart. This new black vs. white BS is going to take decades to get over. And all this Political Correctness has ruined things. I remember going to see Blazing Saddles with my black and white friends, and laughing all night. That film would never be made nowadays, as it would be too offensive to Liberal extremists. I find that sad, as we need to talk about our ethnic differences. There’s no harm in that. My little neighbor girls are scared to use the word black, so they came over and asked me if they should say “colored.” I told them black is fine, and if a black person gets upset, then they have a problem with themselves. I don’t call anyone “African-American” unless they are directly from Africa. Just as my husband is half-Vietnamese, he was born here, and would never expect or want to be referred to as an “Asian-American.”
Can’t we all just be happy and be Americans again?

    • My mother stated that she has not seen the nation so racially divided as it has been in the last eight years. I don’t think she realizes that the liberals took advantage because of Obama. I don’t blame the President. I blame the ones with the agenda for taking advantage and being patronizing to other races that are non-white. No one seems to see this. By starting this “white-privilege” thing, it still reinforces white supremacy and belittles non-whites. “White privilege” does not solve racism. “White Guilt” will not solve racism. We need to have an honest and opened dialogue with people who are not afraid to speak their minds. We need to tell people who would try to shut us down, to sit down and shut up themselves! They take full advantage of their own “privilege” of controlling others and not realizing the damage that they do. They are dividing the country more than they are bringing us together.

yes you can be both proud of being white and not be racist

Just remember skin color is a result of evolution, nothing else, all humans are unique and at the same time the same in essence. The numeric system, the alphabet and our laws were inspired by people that were actually not white, Jesus Christ who many regard as the son of God was not white, America a country widely regarded as a melting pot is great because of its multicultural essence. Open your eyes, you will be surprised!!!
