Can you talk about why you feel you’re oblivious? An example?

It seems to me in even saying that, you’re a lot less oblivious than many…

  • kavihasya

Right there with you. I’ve been trying to figure out ways to be less oblivious without privileging my White Development over other people’s stories.

    What has worked for you?

Hey Kavihasya.. here is an advice for you. If you really like to know, instead of sitting down in front of your monitor all cozy and comfy and perfectly peachy environment seek out a place where you can be discrimnated because you are white by majority 24/7 and only for 365days. Would that work for you?

We are privileged by having good parents who raise us to value the community we live in, to be self-accountable for our actions, to value education and have respect for others.

No one is privileged to be born a certain color. White, black, yellow, brown and red are not races. They are social constructs to keep us from searching out our true identities, and are a way to marginalize all of us, so everyone gets blamed for the actions of a few bad apples.

…your comment is obviously biased. You say “we” and you mean White People. You cannot say that about “all” white people. You are also making a comparison of values that may be true in general, but are purely circumstantial and not applicable to the entire population.

…Statistical Percentages don’t matter because the European American population is 4 -1 compared to African Americans. There is no real valid comparison that can be made with such a wide disparity in numbers.

…The trending attitudes and stories are what you are describing…media driven and sensational…highly preferential. Not real life!

“…your comment is obviously biased. You say “we” and you mean White People.”

If you read the title on this wall, and my reply, you shouldn’t have trouble understanding who I’m referring to, when I use “we”.

Every comment a person makes is biased, no matter how objective one tries to be.

“You cannot say that about “all” white people. You are also making a comparison of values that may be true in general, but are purely circumstantial and not applicable to the entire population.” – Just like “WHITE PRIVILEGE” which says it about ALL WHITE PEOPLE.

I mean, the phrase “White Privilege” is a sweeping generalization in itself, so I responded in the same fashion for sake of argument.

“..Statistical Percentages don’t matter because the European American population is 4 -1 compared to African Americans. There is no real valid comparison that can be made with such a wide disparity in numbers.” – There you go again, comparing races with each other. I wasn’t. I am only talking about the so-called “white” people.

I also think “white” people all over the world could do better in education, work harder, commit less crimes, divorce less, and stop blaming other people for their misfortunes. White communities all around the world need to strive harder and be accountable for their actions. White people need to slowly get off of welfare and find work, instead of being parasitic to the system. It’s also very important that white communities have 2 parent households so their children can be raised properly.

not all whites are privileged. Certainly not in west virginia where it seems incest is a common practice. I am sure there are more places in USA where whites are actually not so privileged, sophisticated or even scratch the surface of being educated. Unless you feel such “tradition” is part of “privilege”… So… what’s your point? is it a skin colour thing again?
