Chinese adoptee with a white name

Jennifer Charmley,
Charlotte, NC.

My dad is white American and my mom is a Chinese immigrant, and I am their adopted daughter from China who grew up in Seattle feeling half-white half-Chinese. As a customer on the phone I’m treated as a white woman, while in person I’m frequently asked what part of Asia I’m from. Sometimes having no particular identity feels really lonely.
