Family Trying to Erase my Identity

Yaz,
Chicago, IL

Growing up, my parents separated and with that came two different homes. In one home I was “too” Puerto Rican and the other I was “too” Argentinian. In one home I was forced not to speak about one ethnicity and in the other home I was forced not to take pride in the other ethnicity at all. It leaves me, to this day, confused and saddened to know I will never get to express both cultures proudly at once due to discrimination and ignorance within my own family.
