Since my daughter’s birth I have been asked why she has blue eyes! I was constantly asked if I was her nanny until she was able to say “mommy”. The most common question, “But how did she get blue eyes?” Do I really need to explain my genetic background to EVERYONE? You would think in California, people wouldn’t be so naive. I’m half Mexican and half Irish, her dad is of German decent… it is possible for a brown-eyed parent to have a blue-eyed child! Just the other day a kid told me her eyes were beautiful, then proceeded with, “Is her dad like blond haired and blue eyed?” It’s so frustrating.
