I am more than my name

Sam Goldberg,
Chicago, IL

I have a Jewish name, and half Jewish ancestry, but I am not a religious or practicing Jew. Having conversations with both Jews and non-Jews about my religion is always difficult because of my name. When people don’t know my name, often they might let something anti-Semitic slip because they don’t see a Jew. Jews learn I’m not really Jewish and seem hurt by my lack of faith. At the end of the day, I don’t want to be defined by my degree of Jewishness.
