“I’d never get away with that!”

This was said to me by my friend who’s Mexican after I told a funny story about getting away with a small offense in high school. I didn’t know what she meant until she explained it was because of her skin. She was labeled and meaner and harsher than the truly was, simply because of the way she looks. I realized right then that my whiteness comes with so much more privilege than I ever thought
