Brazil with a Z differentiates from Brazil with an s, from a Brazilian perspective. Brasil is the name in Portuguese, the language we speak, it carries a sense of identity, belonging, and lived experience its how the country is named on the inside. The real state of living there, the reality of living in Brasil is completely different from the English way of “Brazil” . The difference of the spelling shows how the country is named from the outside, shaped by social media, stereotypes, and simplified images like soccer, the carnival or the amazon rainforest. Brazil is correct in English, but “Brasil” feels more personal and authentic to Brazilians representing culture history, and the everyday reality that outsiders don’t fully understand.
