My shopping bags don’t get checked.

In the town where I went to high school, the privilege I felt was one of class. There were almost no people of color. Living in Washington, DC, I feel my white privilege constantly. Not only am I not followed around Best Buy, my shopping bags are never checked in any store. While on a school camping trip, a fellow parent volunteered to run out for needed food. I offered my Costco card and AMEX. My African-American friend said, “Oh, no, I couldn’t use that. They would think they were stolen.”
