One Response to "Still waiting for a post-racial society"
  1. Bo Sears says:

One thing we have discovered is that “race” is only one of dozens of ways Americans think of themselves.  We are using the term “demographic affinity group” as a replacement term and it really clarifies our thinking.

A demographic affinity group may be about gay identity or religious identity or national origin.  We really don’t need to sort by the old term “race” any longer.

This doesn’t mean “post-racial,” all it means is that people sort themselves in many ways besides or in addition to race.  Frankly, most of the dominate media culture emphasizes race constantly, and makes that the principal issue, but it is only one level of diversity.
