Systemic – Racism. Sexism. Ignorance. | Oppression Olympics

Lucinda Diehl,
Westminster, MD

I find it scary.
Life is scary.
Protesting during a pandemic
Institutional- systemic
Racism and faces
Not with names but cases

African Americans-
Dying
Too aggressive-
Trying
Power and politics-
Lying

I find it ironic.
Just too ironic.
Plateauing during a pandemic
Institutional- systemic
Sexism and fetishes
So he says he regretted this

Asian Americans-
Dying
A temptation-
Horrifying
The intolerance-
Underlying

I find it funny.
No, not funny.
Participating during a pandemic
Institutional- systemic
Ignorance and “social distance”
Defined with:
“The tendency to approach or withdraw from a racial group,”

While we socially distance from one another,
We debate on why we should come together.
I am tired of the “us v.them” mentality
Creating an increasingly crueler reality.
We play house with these systems of oppression.
Marginalized children soak in the impression,
That they will never have a real voice in America.
That they will never have a real voice in America.
Discrimination has become parenthetical.
Oppression Olympics, where is my medal?

I find it scary.
Life is scary.
I find it ironic.
Just too ironic.
I find it funny.
No, not funny.
