I remember hearing this as a child constantly, especially with my grandmother. I felt ashamed speaking Spanish that I completely didn’t want to speak it. Mother reminded me that our language is beautiful and so is our culture and not to take it out on us for someone else’s ignorance. As I grew older I put a stop to anyone who says those words. Nobody is better than anybody just because they know English.
