You’re too white to do that

Adam Costa,
Salem, NH

You see a lot of dancing in the social media spotlight and trends that are started. Either on TikTok or through dances created by rappers and trying to do copy them draws a lot of backlash. I jokingly try to do something and I always draw a response from my friends, “you’re too white too do that”, what determines the state of how white you are. I feel that we have the freedom to do something that makes us feel happy and not get negative comments.

Sometimes angry, sometimes hopeful. Always vigilant

Carl Williams,
Chicago, IL.

Though I love my city Chicago, racial issues persist. The “Blacklash” of President Obama’s election is real, palpable. At my age, 52, I’ve never felt like I must so vigorously defend myself for just being who I’ve always been, a Black man. I can no longer talk about race without being accused of being a racist. And while things are changing, my Grandson is the product of a mixed relationship, I remain deeply concerned about the Country in which he may live; one where some politicians so openly talk about oppressing, suppressing the Constitutional rights other countrymen who are “different” than they.
