This is something often said by White people to Black people, when they are amazed that the Black person is able to communicate effectively using Standard American English. As if we all speak like a character from a Black face film. Its degrading. And, it’s one of the ways in which stereotypical attitudes of White people peer through, and erode the self-confidence of Black people. Enough! Do you tell little hillbillies in the South that you mean how amazed you area that they are so articulate?
