Race is such as small idea in comparison to bigger ideas like love, togetherness, family, connection and happiness. I wish to raise my children in a world where people are celebrated for ideas and compassion and not for superficial ideas such as skin color and ethnicity. Race is outside of our control, but how we treat one another is up to us!

In the novel Invisible Man, a black man in 1930s America struggles to find his identity. He starts out as hopeful and naive, believing that his hard work, determination, and intelligence will lead to eventual success and happiness. He does not realize, until the end of the novel, that the white characters and most of society only see him as a black man and that his destiny has been predetermined.

I know that even though I am a very intelligent and smart girl, I still will get discriminated because of the color of my skin. Whether it is in a social environment or a business environment I will always be judge because of what I look like or my complexion. I am fully aware of the discrimination that exists but I will still strive to my full potential to become what I have always wanted to be.
Happiness is a state of mind.

What I mean by this, is it’s your choice to be happy or not. Even if times are rough, you can still choose to be happy. Life isn’t perfect, there will always be hard times but it’s up to you to still put a smile on your face. You have to find real peace in life and live up to it. No matter what happens, you’ll still have a good outlook on life.
