Mexican girls don’t need a Quinceañera

My friends and cousins tell me that I need to have a Quinceañera and I tell them I don’t want a big party with everyone dancing, Some of my family members say I should have my quinceanera at Mexico, but I don’t want one I just want a normal party with my family & friends when I turn 15. This bothers me because not every Mexican girl needs a Quinceañera and I’m fine with not having a Quinceañera it’s not a big deal.
Don’t Classify Sports for a Race

Tennis has been considered a “white” people sport the same as how soccer is a “Mexican” sport.
Another stereotype would be if I said all black people are good at basketball. My friend has told me why are you playing tennis? Mexicans don’t play tennis. That pushes me to actually do something in tennis to represent Mexicans not just in sports but in everything.

Not All Mexicans Like Spicy Foods

Whenever someone asks me if I Like spicy food like pepper, Takis, Hot Cheetos, or Hot Fires, I say I don’t like anything spicy, they look at me in a weird way and tell me your not Mexican because you don’t like any spicy foods. Not all Mexicans have to like spicy foods, there are other Mexicans who don’t like spicy foods, not just me. This really bothers me because a lot of people in my family tell me this and so do my older sisters friends and It gets on my nerves because I hear it a lot.

Love soccer; not because I’m Mexican.

A lot of people think that “soccer” is just for Mexicans. But in reality soccer is for anyone to play, it doesn’t matter what color of your skin you are. People shouldn’t get judged because of their skin, because anyone who’s any color can play soccer. People don’t understand the fact that “ANYONE” can play any sport. Theirs lots of racism when people play sports. For example African Americans play basketball and people think that just that race can play but it doesn’t matter what color anyone can be better than anyone even if their not the same race. But I just want to let everyone know that if you love a sport go for it, it doesn’t matter what color or your skin.

There are a lot of people who ask me if I play soccer, and I do. But when I say I don’t play soccer they usually say “But you’re Mexican you have to play soccer” and I don’t like that, just because i’m Mexican doesn’t mean I HAVE to play it. Soccer isn’t just a mexican sport, Mexicans mostly play soccer but there are other sports that us Mexicans can play.

Why the Confederate flag is NOT racist

The Confederate flag does not represent and never has represented racism. It’s a symbol of the southern heritage, representing freedom, states rights, individual responsibility, and resistance to an out of control federal government.
It may be true that some racists have used the Confederate flag, but racists also wave the American flag. So another words the Confederate is NOT racist, us American’s also waved around a flag (the American flag) so why should us American say it is racist that they are waving around there flag when we are waving around our own flag. They have the right to wear and or wave around the Confederate flag it is up to the how they feel about it.

I have been told,” We can’t hang out anymore because my parents don’t like Mexicans.”, and “You can’t even speak spanish how are you mexican?”. In general I am treated okay, but things change in the heat of the moment. How can we be at peace when these stereotypical attitudes are still common?

Skin doesn’t define the person’s race

When people see the color of someone skin they automatically go to an conclusion that are one specific race. For example, when they see a person with light brown skin they say the person is Mexican and when their skin is white they automatically say that they are a white person, when really they can a different race other than white. Like in this photo people automatically say that she white when really she’s Mexican.

I am white, I’m not racist

Because I am white, people believe I’m racist. But that’s not the case. In the news, it shows how white people (and police) are killing people who are not their race (mainly African-Americans). With all of this in the news, they automatically think that I am racist. I am from a city that is very diverse and the white population isn’t a vast majority. I actually enjoy the diversity in the city and I am very comfortable with different races. In fact, I have very few friends who are the same race as me. In my class at my school, the white population is not even a minority. I wish they would change their opinion on all white people are racist.

“Mexicans Are Supposed To Like Meat”

I’m a Mexican vegetarian and I HATE meat. I became a vegetarian about 4 yrs ago due to a video that my cousin showed me on how they killed the animals to make our food, and I thought it was really sad so I had told my parents that I was never going to eat meat again. I guess they didn’t believe me but I was serious, and from then on I didn’t eat meat again. Whenever somebody would find out that I didn’t like meat, they looked at me and said “but I thought Mexicans were supposed to like meat.” I never quite understood why it was that people were only surprised when they found out that a Mexican didn’t like meat compared to how they react when they find out someone for example who is white didn’t eat meat. I thought maybe it was because it was just something they thought or maybe they see that Mexicans really enjoy meat, so when they find out that a Mexican doesn’t like meat, they are surprised. Some people don’t even find it strange when they find out someone who is white doesn’t like meat, It’s just a stereotype.

Teasing Asians because they’re smart=DUMB

About my whole life people teased me because I was Asian. I also hear people teasing other people to. People used to say “I’m smart because I’m Asian” and I told them it has nothing to do with being Asian, it is only my race. Asians aren’t born with a computer in there brain. I succeed because I try my hardest and I don’t give up. I practice over and over so I get better. People say they don’t have the time but you just have to make time for it or you just won’t succeed, you have to put time in to it or you will never get better. Good things happen to the those people that work there asses off and never gives up. As Babe Ruth says “It’s hard to beat a person that never gives up”. So just try you hardest and dont give up and just maybe you will be called Asian.

The worst question I have ever been asked is, “Do you love them the same?”. This was a question I was asked when I got a new adopted black cousin. I almost cried because I was too young to understand why anyone couldn’t love someone the same just because of a color.
