As a music teacher with an almost entirely black and hispanic student body, I was met with stories of oppression, lack of food, disrupted sleep, abuse, incarceration, and even the murder of the loved ones they so deeply cared for. I will never forget the beautiful music my students expressed through their hardships. I will always strive to do more on their behalf.

The Black Liberation struggle did not go far enough — did not uproot oppression, disassemble power structures, create a new state power of the people — did not make revolution. We are seeing how all the successes of these past struggles have been reduced and reversed, and the situation is now worse. We can emancipate all of humanity, through revolution.

My six words reflect the reality that even with the increasing diversity in the U.S. and the increased interactions across racial and ethnic lines, White supremacy still exists. I think many people naively assume that the increasing diversity will solve our racial problems. However, racial segregation still exists, under investment in schools where most Black and Brown kids go to school, police still occupy communities of color, mass incarceration of Black and Brown is still happening, etc. And Whites still benefit disproportionately in society and control the money and power. Not only that, racism is still used to divide poor Whites from people of color, whom could otherwise unite and change our oppressive capitalistic system to be much more equitable. White supremacy is alive and well.

To know the story of my six words, one just needs to turn on any news channel, daily. Or, check the bureau of labor statistics since its inception. Or, check statistics on levels of incarceration for African Americans. Or, view all forms of media open to human consumption. Or, study the subaltern position of people of color in all societies relative to that of white people throughout history. If God does exist, he/she has placed no value on black souls.
