Judged for wanting to be different

It can be hard to stand out and pursue a path of something different then what society and the world want you to do. People categorize you as weird or a loser if you aren’t doing what everyone else is doing. If anyone struggled with this all I can say is stay focused on your dreams and prove everyone wrong through your success.

Did not choose to be Jewish

I did not choose to be Jewish. But, I have come to realize as I got older to appreciate who I am and how my religion is important to me. People think I am Mexican because I am tan, but really I am a Eastern European Jew. When I tell people that I am Jewish, they look at me and say I can see that, you have the hair and people are sometimes making money comments. I am proud to be Jewish and I do not care what people say. I love celebrating the holidays and getting to know about my families lives. Being Jewish is a big part of me and I am not ashamed. Well… All Asians look the same.

As a young Japanese American girl in elementary I did not like these 6 words. It usually followed a comment about me “speaking Chinese” or “visiting family in Korea.” I am not asking for everyone to be able to distinguish different Asian physical traits, but just to be more conscious of what they say.
