Go back to your own country

Miguel Toral
Ocala, Fl

I am a Latino with a mom from Nebraska and a father from Ecuador. I was born in Washington,D.C., but when I was 6 months went to live with my grandparents in Ecuador ,since my dad had been in an accident and my grandfather offered to help out while he recovered. Both of my parents were in college, and this also helped them, while they were finishing up their studies. I ended up staying for around 4 years and my sister moved down for a few years also. I returned to the U.S. to start kindergarten and I moved to Rock Hill, South Carolina. Since there weren’t many Latino families around people would make fun of our Spanish and our lack of English. When we got off the bus and were walking home they would throw sticks and stones and yell at us,”go back to your own country,”but we were already there.
