Natives Can Have Curls Without Admixture

Karapiru-Amazon-ManAn Indigenous Native American’s with Curly Hair,
USA

Western Hemisphere Indigenous Natives
The “straight hair myth” started by The English Settlers in North American, and spread like a nasty virus throughout our entire hemisphere. Anyone else tired of this lie.

THE PENCIL TEST: In the past Whites had a test which was used to define who was Native and who was not based on if a pencil fell thru ones hair. Native people with curls were by oppressive means deemed Black by whites based on the fact that many Natives do not carry the straight hair gene. Whites only wanted to promote one hair trait and did so for centuries causing loss of culture and birth right for many full blood Native Americans, until now. Curly hair does not come from having an admixture of African or White blood, many full, and close to full blood Natives carry the curly hair gene, so for those ignorant folks out there stating otherwise STOP pulling the looney “ADMIXTURE CARD” just because your closed and confused mind refuses to see the Truth that Natives have more than one physical trait which cannot be suppressed any longer by anyone who is biased to it because of their own hate or misinformation. Truth is Truth so deal with it.

A SAD TRUE STORY OF OPPRESSION AND SUPPRESSION OF A NATIVE AMERICAN CHILD HERITAGE:
A Native child in Robeson County, NC who had the exact same MATERNAL AND PATERNAL parents as their sibling was deemed not to be Native American because they had curls and their (sibling) who had the very same mother and father as this child had the opposite, straight hair.
HISTORY OF THE IGNORANT PENCIL TEST: “Physical anthropologist was also sent to determine the racial ancestry and degree of “Indian blood” of Robeson’s Indians. Both anthropologists used “scientifically based” means to determine the authenticity of physical features and blood type to ascertain if any of those tested would qualify as having half or more “Indian blood.” An example of the scientific means used to assess “Indianness” was the “pencil test.” A pencil was slipped into a subject’s hair. If the pencil stayed after mild to vigorous shaking of the head, the subject’s hair was deemed too tight or “non-Indian.” If the pencil fell, it was understood to have fallen out of real Indian hair. OUT OF 209 LUMBEE INDIVIDUALS TESTED, 22 WERE CATEGORIZED BY SELTZER AS “INDIANS” (SELTZER 1936). In one particular instance of two full siblings, sharing the same parents, one was deemed to be Indian and the other non-Indian (Blu 1980:72).”
WHO is ignorant enough to say Native Americans can’t have curly hair? How can someone try to define Native blood by something as silly as hair type? Some ignorant people in our land still do this and go out of their way to promote this ignorance, and it is because they have a brainwashed mindset due to believing every negative stereotype the white man has set up in our land concerning our Native people in order to turn us on each other based on these ignorant stereotypes.

NOTE: HOW MANY WHITE CENSUS WORKERS DID THEIR OWN “VISUAL” PENCIL TEST ON OUR NATIVE AMERICAN PEOPLE WITH THE FEDERAL CENSUS IN THE 18TH, 19TH, AND 20TH CENTURIES?

White Slavery & The Myth of White Privilege

image35DeAnna Calderon,
Austin, TX.

I grew up poor in the Southside of Chicago. We were extremely poor and even homeless at times. Sleeping outside in the middle of winter when I was a child. When I was 22 I joined the Army. The treatment I faced as a woman in the military felt like it was 1954, instead of 2004. A man of any color was treated better than a female. When black people and white liberal suburbanites talk of “White Privilege” I asked myself, “Where was my ‘White Privilege'”?’ A lot of poor whites live in the same neighborhoods as blacks and Hispanics, go to the same schools, and work at the same jobs; yet, white privilege is thrown in our face as if we do not have the same struggles. Slavery didn’t start with the Atlantic Slave Trade and black people were not the only victims. In the Bible, Egypt (in Africa) enslaved the Jews. Millions of Europeans were enslaved by North Africans and brought back to the Barbary Coast (http://researchnews.osu.edu/archive/whtslav.htm). The first slaves in America didn’t come from Africa, but from Ireland. The Irish Slave Trade dropped the population in Ireland from 1,500,000 people to 600,000 within a decade. “African slaves were very expensive during the late 1600s (50 Sterling). Irish slaves came cheap (no more than 5 Sterling). If a planter whipped or branded or beat an Irish slave to death, it was never a crime. A death was a monetary setback, but far cheaper than killing a more expensive African” (http://www.africaresource.com/rasta/sesostris-the-great-the-egyptian-hercules/the-irish-slave-trade-forgotten-white-slaves/). The term slave actually comes from the Slavs or the ethnic Polish. The Slavs were enslaved by the Ancient Romans. Slavery even continues today in most countries, but the victims are women and children that are sold into sex trafficking. Life isn’t easy for anyone. The only privilege that exists today isn’t white, but green. Money and power will get you whatever you want. Michael Jordan, Russell Simmons, and other wealthy minorities have Green Privilege and with that privilege comes power.

“You’re Asian? You must be smart.”

It’s very annoying how many people say that i’m smart just because of my race, like if i were to tell someone that i was asian they would be all like, “ Oh, that’s why you’re so smart!”, Yeah i may be smart, but it’s not because I am Asian! Many people believe that people who are asians are smarter, but they are just the same as any others, just taught a little more or works a little harder than any other. Anyone, and i mean anyone, could be as smart as any asian person, not saying they are smart, they just try hard to learn, and anyone can do that. As a kid, I got taught by my parents and grandparents, because my grandpa from my mom’s side was a mathematician, so i ended up learning more in my childhood and can learn easier because i have been learning since i was very young, like 5 or 4. It is not cool to say you or someone else isn’t as smart as me just because i’m asian, everyone would learn different, race doesn’t matter that much, it may change where you are, but not who you are as a person, like if you wanted to be smart, learn! I chose to be smart and learn because I wanted to, and as i say this, i would say i didn’t learn as much in writing or language arts, so i don’t write as good, but i can change that. There are also handicaps to being asian, because people think asians are smarter, the government makes asians work harder than anyone else! An example of that is, asians can’t get a certain degree or can’t go to certain colleges because people say they are “Super smart” just because they learned more than others.

The myth of race: what making race caused

Race was never real; it was made up by a single person. It was made to categorize people, nothing else. As the American Anthropological Association (AAA), which is a group of very well educated anthropologists in the country say, “it has become clear that human populations are not unambiguous, clearly demarcated, biologically distinct groups. Evidence from the analysis of genetics (e.g., DNA) indicates that most physical variation, about 94%, lies within so-called racial groups. Conventional geographic “racial” groupings differ from one another only in about 6% of their genes. This means that there is greater variation within “racial” groups than between them. In neighboring populations there is much overlapping of genes and their phenotypic (physical) expressions. Throughout history whenever different groups have come into contact, they have interbred. The continued sharing of genetic materials has maintained all of humankind as a single species.” So people aren’t very different after all. In 1776 a german scientist named Johann Friedrich Blumenbach was one of the first to make different races, and came up with 5 different categories based on physical appearance and where the people lived. After that, white and european people bought into this subject and then said that race would resolve things, so Thomas jefferson said, “To these objections, which are political, may be added others, which are physical and moral. The first difference which strikes us is that of colour.” And so they divided up black people and white people so that white people could feel superior. Also, Huffington post says, “The concept of race in such research is “problematic at best and harmful at worst,” everyone is in the same race, which is human. We need to know this because race causes many bad things, like discrimination, and people should be able to live without it. Race was never real,
It was made by one person, and race couldn’t make anything better.

Black Is Just An Insecure Label

To me race is just a made up way to put people in groups, based on the way they look. When did that start to matter? Stereotypes, Racism, Segregation, Slaves, and Wars. Stereotypes are a big part of race and racism. The following are the most common stereotypes for Black people. Blacks` are know to not know how to swim. Blacks are from the ghetto. Blacks all have afros or not done hair. All Black Women are sassy, angry, and loud. Black dudes are super violent by nature. Black people need White people to save them.

It really hurts to think people don’t know the truth about who I really am. Stereotypes really hurt people, I have experience with it many times, I get very hurt thinking that’s what people think about me. Just look at the Doll test. I think that people never really learned the truth about race. In class we busted the myth of race. RACE IS FAKE.

Race is Nothing to Change our Nation

Race is not real. Race is the classification of humans into groups based on physical traits, ancestry, genetics and lifestyle. Well that’s what people used to think. United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) “All humans belong to the same species and that ‘race’ is not a biological reality but a myth.” When the European settlers/explorers came to america they saw people who didn’t look like the others. I bet you’re thinking well race came first. The settlers decided they were more superior which created racism and then race afterward. Think of it as if you were looking at an ants and you naturally squish the ants most people do. There is no way to tell a person’s “race”, not by skin color hair color or eye color. Race is not Real. Still don’t think so do some research, look it up. Many people would agree with me.

My mom and dad speak English!

Both my parents grew up in Mexico. When people see me they think they have to translate in Spanish for me. It seems everyone always asked “Do you know English?” When I was only six, the stereotypes I was exposed to were “You look Mexican, do you eat burritos?” and “Do you speak Spanish only?” or “Do you know english?” I’m portrayed as a kid who doesn’t know English well. People may assume my parents must not be able to speak English. I was born and raised in San Diego. At home, we speak both languages, Spanish and English. This is important to share because just because I look Mexican, you may not know that I could speak many different language other than Spanish. It takes a real dedicated parent to show their child what real culture is, false information takes a toll on kids later it’s better to know that race is a category to divide people. That is why it’s important to education young people. I know that race is what divides us it’s the word that made slaves work day and night, the word that broke lives, the word that was used for the splitting of equals.

Race is a myth.

Race is something that is a sensitive but important topic to talk about. Not many people know the truth. Race is not biologically real, but socially real. There is no such thing as race such as categories humans by the way they physically look. Bill Nye, a well-known scientist who is the CEO of The Planetary Society, states that “there is no such thing as a purebred dog, if you breed a chihuahua and a great dane it’s just a mix of genes that is the outcome, not a purebred species.” He has gotten controversial feedback on people not as open minded to the facts, but there isn’t anything that he can do. It’s a fact that race is a man-made idea. There are studies that “it’s not very healthy to put “labels” on people.” This is related to race in humans because even though each human has different traits they are all one species; human. The truth is labels don’t help at all, they make it seem as one person is more superior to another. As the Newsweek stated “It seems that the belief in human races, carrying along with it the prejudice and hatred of “racism,” is so embedded in our culture and has been an integral part of our worldview for so long that many of us assume that it just must be true”. Even though, race is a sensitive topic we should all learn to use our voice and not stay quiet.

I will choose who I am.

Why people often think that they can only be one thing for their entire life is one of my greatest curiosities.

One of our greatest powers is the ability to change, to be something different.

Choosing to have just one label for the rest of my life has never made any sense to me. Good and bad, black and White, Why does it matter? Why do we look at others and choose to stamp a label on them? We are not products, pre-packaged to your liking. We should aspire to change everyday, into better versions of ourselves. We’re never the same even moment to moment, so why act like it?

If I demand respect I’m a crazy feminist.
If I protect the environment, I’m an eco-freak.
And If I embrace my ethnicity and culture, I am just another Mexican.

We are all 99% the same, why let that puny 1% divide us? We have so much more to offer together. People of all colors should be respected and loved because in the end they are just as human as we are.

“If our eyes saw souls instead of bodies, how very different our ideals of beauty would be.” -Anonymous

Race is a social construct and does not biologically exist. Every person’s genetic makeup and race is created by sheer coincidence. “Race is not biological. It is a social construct. There is no gene or cluster of genes common to all blacks or all whites..” (New York Times). Our DNA is 99.9% the same (The Telegraph) so it would make no sense for race to be biologically possible. Discrete and continuous traits are a great indicator of this, A discrete trait is when you either have it or you don’t (double jointed, attached earlobes, etc.), A continuous trait is when there is a wide spectrum of a trait (hair, eyes, etc.). Skin color is a continuous trait which makes it impossible to say that someone is definitely black or white. This is important because people of all colors should be respected and loved because they are just as human as we are.

“There is no race chromosome that people can point to, It doesn’t exist.”- The myth of race.

To ignore that we are all humans with hearts, hopes and dreams is inhuman and cruel.

Race is mankind’s most dangerous myth.

Dr H,
USA.

Lots. Don’t know if it will all fit here. I am proud of my ethnic heritage. But my “race” is simply the human race. The idea of human beings belonging to separate and distinct “races” was shown to be scientifically bogus as far back as the mid-19th century. Instead of perpetuating the evil errors of the past, wake up and live in the present — it’s the 21st century, for crying out loud.

White People, White Culture, Social construct

Barry Irving,
Syracuse, NY.

…History tells us that Whiteness has always been a social construct that is used to exclude certain groups… ( people of Color )
…The notion of White culture is a Myth…
…White People are not a single ethnic Group or a distinct number of ethnicities. They are an amalgamation of everyone who benefits from White Privilege and it’s boundaries are always shifting.
…Throughout History many groups considered White today were considered to be non White. In a similar vein, it is important to note that the term White has not always meant the same thing. Although W.A.S.P.S. have always benefited from that term in this country, virtually every other European Nation has been considered as lesser at some point…from Eastern Europeans ( poles, Ukrainians, Russians ) and Southern Europeans ( Italians, Greeks, Spaniards ) to long standing victims of Western persecution like Irish and the Jews.
