Trying to Navigate, Willing to Fight

Donna Scott,
Seattle, WA.

I’m passionate about social justice, but I sense the amount of space that I take up, as a white person. I noticed race early on (I’m thinking I noticed it in Kindergarten, I was one of two white kids at my school of ~300) and I’ve been trying my best to learn. I feel my narrative isn’t important in this fight, but I want to speak up when I see an injustice. I’m never certain when speaking up will be speaking over voices of color or when I’m taking up room in spaces of color.

Racial Construct that won’t stop me

Leonard McReynolds,
Atlanta, GA.

I’m a black Puerto Rican who lives in the United States. At Times, it makes navigating race relations difficult, for everyone likes to put me in a box. Either I am not black enough because I speak Spanish, or not Puerto Rican enough because I am black. However, I will not let the ignorance of my surroundings affect how I view myself and my identity.
