God painted the world in color

Cassidy Capoferri,
Wayne State,
Macomb, MI

Growing up Catholic and in Catholic schools, we were always taught that God loves everyone, no matter what. He created all people equally. It was so simple when I was younger, but the older I get, the more I see people ignoring this. It doesn’t matter what religion you’re part of, if you put your faith in God or Buddha, or if you believe in anything at all. What people should agree on is the fact that the world looks a whole lot better in color.

I am Native, I am American.

SelfieTammy Trouche’,
Canadian, OK.

I may appear to be white, but I am as colorful as my ancestors. I can’t imagine a world without color. Mother Earth would be dull and lifeless without the purity of the colors. That is true of ALL people. We are full of color, paint humanity in FULL COLOR.

Don’t paint blue eyes. It hurts.

Marcia Hartsock,
Cincinnati, OH.

I’m an illustrator, and Caucasian. In the 1980s, I was painting a wall mural in my integrated church that included a large eye that I had painted blue. A group of African American women friends from the church approached me and shared their thoughts and feelings about blue eyes. I have never forgotten that, and it changed the way I approached my own illustrations from then on. I owe them a great deal of thanks for being so honest with me.
