Exotic for a black girl

I am a multiracial girl who has bullied for the way I looked from K-12. I have been hated because girls thought their boyfriends liked me. I would be threatened to get jumped because they thought I thought of myself as better than them. Black girls never liked me because I was lightskin with long hair and when I cut my hair, they still disliked me because my hair was curly. I had more white friends than black or hispanic because they accepted me not based on my looks, but on common interest. I only accepted because people think I am exotic. I have been told all my life that I look Brazilian or I am so pretty for a black girl. I wish people didn’t care so much about race. I wished people cared more about the inside of someone’s heart than if someone is black or not. We are more than our skin color and texture of our hair.

From as far back as I can remember people assume that because I am blonde I have the most fun and have no brains. They seem to assume I am easy to pick-up and easy to make fun of. I cannot tell you how many “dumb blond” jokes I have heard in my years. I am picked on because I am blonde or I am not taken seriously because of my hair color. Not matter who we are people will make assumptions. It is easy to fall into the pigeon hole society attempts to place us in. We need to remind ourselves who we are on the inside and let that show on the outside. Skin, hair and eyes those just give us color in a dull world. Shine bright from the inside.

I do not know what it is like to be pulled over by the police because of the color of my skin.
I do not know what it is like to be called degrading names because of my ethnic background.
I do not know what it is like to be profiled because of my race.
I do not know what it is like to be turned down on a job because of the color of my skin.
I am sorry that so many have been treated unjustly, and that it still goes on today. I do know that you are created in the image of God. You are beautiful through and through. You are smart, caring, talented, and amazing. You have a purpose on the earth, and you matter.

I am Japanese. I married to American man. However, when I tell people that Im married, people ask if Im married to Japanese guy. I answer, ‘no Im married to American guy.” well….that is not enough for some people. Those people have to know which Ethnicity he is, DOES IT MATTER? American is American! Why do people have to specify what kind of American?! Same with school system! Why do they need to ask kid’s ethnicity? Do they have different teaching methods to different kids??? Why can’t we all be just American?!
