Because I’m balck I’m a threat

Zuanisha Jones,
Winchester, VA

I’m Zuanisha. I am from NJ currently in Winchester VA and attending Lord Fairfax Community College in Middletown VA. I am a black woman and when I go onto a retail store or any store I feel like I am watched and followed. I am there to shop I am not there to steal or hurt anyone I would love to be looked at the same. I am a single mother and I would never risk anything from me being a mother. I am a black woman in America and I would love to be trusted until proven other wise.

I cant trust white people fully.

Mr.Jones,
Kalamazoo, MI.

I feel that its very hard to trust white people due the their past/present, global destructive and deceptive nature. I know all white people aren’t bad but I feel that I have to be on guard when around them. I still see negative qualities in them that my grandad talked about from his young years..he’s 89 btw.

Mugged by black teens, trust destroyed.

Alison Blomster
Minneapolis, MN

I think there are some healthy reasons why stereotypes of black male teens exist. After being mugged by 5 black teenage boys wearing hooded parkas, I can understand the fear that any other person, of any skin color could feel when confronted by a black male teen whose eyes cannot be seen. I am also sad and frankly, disillusioned that this same attention isn’t given to black teens who kill other black teens, which happens far more frequently. Why is that? To me this has turned into a race issue, when I think it’s really a gun issue.
