Seattle, please stop fearing black folks.

Cimg4589-001Roland Groce, Jr.,
Seattle, WA.

All 52 years of my life has been affected by white privilege and racism. My son is bi-racial, now graduated from college and approaching grad school at a racist institution (University of Washington). I am concerned that at the UW, Asian people have taken over and continuing to carry out the legacy of racism.

Why try, if won’t go far?

Being an undocumented Latina for about 17 years many “friends”, teachers and other people have told me why and I even trying hard if no colleges would accept me because I’m not from here or even get a job. But now I’m a senior; going to graduate this Friday and this upcoming fall I will be attending UW-Madison. In reality if you do try hard and believe in yourself there is no doubt that you will achieve all your dreams and I will not let nobody stop me from dreaming!

“Bias Incident Report” training — sadly, welcome

Carol Pope
Madison, WI

The UW-Madison has set up a way for students, staff and community members who see, hear, witness or are victims of bias to report the experience to UW Administration, so it can collect and investigate these occurrences. It is a good step, it will gather useful information and hopefully be a way to improve campus climate, it’s just sad that it is necessary for our “liberal” campus in a “liberal” city to need such a tool.
