Don’t Bring Home No White Girls

Anonymous,
TX.

Said a well travelled Black American female veteran to her biracial, trilingual, and dual citizen son. Behind her, in full agreement, stood her Eastern European Jewish husband. As madly in love as was at first sight, their relationship was taboo, condemned by family and friends alike. Now years later they faced their resultant son, looked in his light colored eyes and set him right. If he didn’t want any trouble and to keep his future bright, keep all White women out of sight! They only had their son’s best interests in mind, because both had known Black and Mulatto young men who had thrown their lives away by chasing after White American women that then uttered the dreaded 4 letter word….Rape.

In turn he smiled at them amusedly, took a few clumsy steps forward on his long skinny chicken legs, exactly like those of his towering father, and bent, though not too far because his mother was also quite tall, to plant a kiss on her round ebony cheek. In his low deep voice as he pushes his thick glasses back up on his face he says, “Why would I chase a ghost, when I have had the epitome of beauty before my eyes for nearly 23 years?” As he had done as small boy, when people thought this gorgeous Nubian Goddess who was closer to 50 than 40 but was often accused of being only 30 was merely his nanny, the son holds his mother’s face in hands and stares at her adoringly. “I learned how to appreciate real beauty young.” Then he smiles bashfully at his father and concludes, “Apuci(Daddy), I am going to get one of these fine models for myself. Where should I look?” It was very clear that though the well-brought up young man respected all women, his heart would ALWAYS belong to a fiery, gorgeous, and loyal ‘Sistah’.

Won’t speak up, fear of judgement.

I feel that on my college campus, I am not invited to speak out when it comes to race. Sure, they have the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, but I only see one race in the office. We have plenty of diversity events on campus, and I have attended several. I tried to speak up for myself, in a room where I was actually the minority. I felt targeted and shut down, not even listened to. Let’s remind each other that EVERYONE goes through some sort of hate, or struggle. Each life story is their own, not to be compared or made less of. I was told, “white girls are like ‘I’m just gonna go to my ski house this weekend'” Hello, a child from a single mother with four children who raised them by herself while maintaining a full time job. We didn’t have a ski house. We are thankful for what we do have, and that is an open mind. Get rid of the stigma of being proud of your race, even if it is a majority. Everyone deserves self respect and love. End the hate against each other, please.

Am I Bad? Am I Good…?

Black people aren’t who you think they Are…If they were I would be kicked out of my school. Like Martin Luther King jr said: “I Have a Dream! That one day little Black boys And White girls, and white boys and black girls could join together in peace and harmony…”, And yet probably only about 50% of people in the world fulfilled that dream for him. If Martin Luther King Jr. didn’t get killed and still was alive today, America would be a better place because He is the one who has made the claim and he would have stuck to it. Now that he is not here, the world is a Mad House. Almost everyone everywhere are being abusive to one another.

Black People aren’t who you think

Black People are not what you think…People think that black people are rude, mean, and selfish. But if you think about it…black people are not always bad… yes, sometimes they are in a group of people that are their gender, but that doesn’t mean they are in a gang group. Most of them are just friends hanging out. Most people think that when the black people get killed, it’s because they are bad. If they were bad, then every black person would be in jail. Like Martin Luther King jr. said, “If you can’t fly, then you can run. If you can’t run, then you can walk. If you can’t walk, then crawl, but whatever you do, Just keep moving forward!” Keep Moving forward means to me is that you have to put the past behind you, the bad stuff, and keep moving forward in life! So Listen to Martin Luther King Jr., and keep moving forward.

You are more than one race?

Before this project I didn’t know much about race or racism, but then I figured out a lot of people have been stereotypical or racist in my community, with my friends, or people on social media. When I heard this term that people were saying it kind of hurt me because they were saying things like ¨ All white girls do this…¨ and I didn’t know how to react because I didn’t know that was towards me. I thought this because I didn’t identify as ¨white.” I identified as Irish, Norwegian, Scottish, and more. That’s how I got this memoir because a lot of people think I am just ¨White¨ or ¨American¨ but I wanted to prove that I am more than that, I think I´m way more unique this way. I´ve grown up in amazing, loving and accepting family, I’ve always been taught to treat people how they want to be treated, which helped me because some parents don’t teach their kids about racism and how everyone should be treated the same, which could cause problems when their older because if we don’t address this problem nothing will change. Sometimes people don´t want to talk about the issue of racism because it could be uncomfortable or they don’t want to talk about the negative parts of life and what’s going on.

Race was made by US.

Race was not made by genetics, it was made by US. Most people think race is biologically real, but it was really made by Europeans who found people that looked and talked differently from them, so they categorized them into a ¨race.¨ This happened because they were ¨usually assigning the highest qualities to their own people and lower qualities to the “Other” people, either lower classes or outsiders to their society.¨ They made it so they were more powerful than people that were different from them. Race is a manmade word that turned into racism, which caused a lot of controversy between different ethnicities, because they were being rude to each other, but it all started with the Europeans being racist, then evaluated to ¨white¨ people being racist against ¨black¨ people. Racism back then was awful: there were separate water fountains, pools, schools. Even though we’ve come a long way with fixing a lot of racism in our world, there is still a very long way to go because we don’t accept the fact that it doesn’t matter what you look like on the outside. It matters what you look like on the inside.
