I’m not “Karen”- I am me.

Ashley, Petersburg, VA, .

I grew up in a tiny southern town. My family’s past views are not mine. Don’t assume because I am white and from the south, that I am automatically racist or proud about “dixie pride”. Yes, I love where I come from and where I grew up, but I have an open mind and I know history isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. I make sure to have “difficult” conversations and I am proud to say I love all cultures. I don’t complain to managers and I don’t call cops on black people. I don’t want anyone to just assume that because I’m white, I automatically side with other whites. Please don’t look at me and say you don’t care- I’m not Karen. I CARE.
