Just check the box for ‘White’

Courtney Petrucci.

Growing up as an Asian and Caucasian person, I was often in a strange place of feeling both “other” in groups of white people but not “other enough” in groups of non-white people. This often led to people making assumptions about me, being in the presence of racist conversations people wouldn’t have if they thought they were in “mixed company,” and even specifically being told dismissively on several occasions to just check the box for ‘White’ when filling out forms and surveys. White doesn’t say it all, but am I enough to check more?
