As a white woman who has been handed an incredible amount of privilege, even though I grew up low income and have had many hardships impact my life and career, I am incredibly tired of white women getting defensive and says “I was just trying to help!” or “This is why I don’t speak up” or “Why are you telling me I am wrong?” I don’t care if it hurts to be told your ways of thinking are racist – you are an adult, you can check yourself, you can learn, and you can grow. So grow up, sit back, and listen.
