My grandparents were very loving and caring folks.. but they grew up in a “different” time with a “different” set of core beliefs and values being passed down from their families. It impacted my parents as well. I wasn’t raised to be anything other than open and welcoming, regardless of race when out in the world.. but that wasn’t always the case behind closed doors. My father recently told me that I was responsible for changing our families view points when it came to sexual orientation and race. It’s a small impact, I know. And probably a little too late. As a parent myself I’m confident in my ability to teach my children the right views and opinions.
