I have dealt with racism to varying degrees my entire life; when I was younger it was much more overt, but as an adult it is mostly subtle (except for when people say things as they drive by because they are too cowardly to actually say them to my face).
When I was in southwest VA for Thanksgiving with my wife’s family (I am in an interracial marriage – I’m Asian, my wife is white), some people yelled: “Go back to where you came from!”
I was born in this country and couldn’t be more proud to be an American. This unprovoked, random act of racism was a true display of ignorance/hate.
