I am white. Black lives matter.

Marilyn Feister.

This is a picture of my day care provider with my sons who are all grown up now. She is an amazing woman. She was a nurse for many years, and then started the day care center in her 60’s. She had a vision for a day care center devoted to babies and early childhood development. While there were nursery schools for older children, few day cares specialized in developing learning in babies. Also, she used her nursing background to focus on special needs; she had a blind child and my own sons with low muscle tone. There was so much love in that center. The fact that so many of the families she took care of still keep in touch tells you how special she is.

On this last visit (which is what the picture is) my son asked if she had ever experienced racism. She told us that when she was a nurse, despite being sought after by the patient, some in the family did not want her. It made me sick. Such a brilliant, compassionate person being looked down upon because of her skin color.
