Marion Iannotta.
My grandparents emigrated from Italy to America in the early 1900’s. In my family, children are named after our grandparents. As a result, my cousins and I were named, Marion, after my father’s mother. Fast forward to adulthood and every year, our family gets together to visit the family grave site to pay our respects. I’d never noticed before but on one of our visits, I noticed that my grandmother’s name was not Marion. It was Marianna. We are very proud to be Italian, yet my parents, aunts and uncles must have felt it was best not to give us my grandmother’s given name. It makes me sad.
