Doug Steel.
I’m a cis White man. I also grew up financially vulnerable in a religious community with a history of persecution (Mennonite) and came out as bisexual late in life. I have a former wife, (now friend and co-parent), 2 children and a partner who is a man. The places where I feel like I belong? At the gay bar Number 9 in Washington DC with my circle of LGBTQIA+ friends and at Foundry United Methodist Church with my kids, just 2 blocks away from Number 9. I live on the fault line of America’s culture wars, even though I look like I am clearly on one side.
