He exclaimed, “Ghetto Girl Makes Good!”

Laura Ann Lane,
Chicago, IL.

I was a paralegal at a large firm and the partners knew I was applying to law school. When a sicilian American partner found out that I was accepted to Northwestern University School of law he said, “The headlines will say, ‘Ghetto Girl Makes Good!” He meant that as a compliment. Even though I grew up in majority black neighborhoods, went ot majority black public schools, I never considered myself as coming from the Ghetto.
