Growing up in a very white county, I was starved of diversity. Last year, I went to a well-known university for a summer REU program. The amount of racial, ethnic, and religious diversity there was amazing! Many times I would realize–after being engrossed in conversation, playing cards, or eating–that I was the only white person at the table. For some reason, this thought always brought a smile to my face.
