My ancestors? Forgotten. Wish that’d change.

My grandmother will not speak of her heritage. She will not get her status card out of shame, despite the possibility that it may make her life the slightest bit easier. She’s alienated herself completely from her own culture. When she passes, not me, not my brothers, not any of her children will know about our ancestor’s struggles through colonialism. They will be forgotten. I wish I could change that.
