I am from Jamaica, travel much, and have been mistaken for a ‘local’ in about ten other countries. Why? I am certainly part of the African diaspora, but like many Jamaicans, have mixed ancestry. My culture makes me what I am, no matter what other people think I am. Labels in the U.S. or anywhere else won’t change me.
