As a straight white male, I am automatically viewed as the boogeyman in cultural issues. People who haven’t even stopped to talk to me will assume things about me. Things like “likely rapist,” “oppressive force,” “obviously he’s got it great… white ‘privilege’.”‘ All stemmed from the fact that white people who weren’t even my ancestors were oppressors back in the day (that’s right, not all white bloodlines have slavery in them). And with this mindset of racial, sexual, and general prejudice, comes a population boom in other races that makes mine less prevalent in this country’s voting system. White people are a smaller and smaller percentage of the US population every day, and the other races are in some states, not the minority anymore at all. I will not be received well for saying these things, but these things need to be said. I am the new mocked minority, derided for my inherent traits, and vilified for what I can’t control in the name of “privilege checking.” This is my story.
