When I was in elementary school we had an assignment to talk about our heritage and nationality. I was adopted (but my mom hadn’t disclosed that yet) and there is a lot on my biological mom’s side that we don’t know anything about. So when I asked where I was from, she said you are American. I think about that a lot when I hear people being asked “where are you actually from”
