That Asian girl in the background

I moved to the U.S. four years ago, and having to come across my classmate’s Facebook comment identifying a picture she took of her friend with me standing in the background was nothing but pain in my heart, when I saw her commenting: “that Asian girl in the background”. I have a name and I believe she knew my name, because we were in classes together; in fact, I knew her name. I understand that race is sometimes how people identify themselves when they don’t know that much about each other, but when you’ve been in the same class with a person for a few months, it’s ignorant and disrespectful to do so. It’s been four years, and it still hurts occasionally when I think about it.
