I love when I hear kids respond to explanations of racism with confusion. They think…Why would you treat someone differently because of skin color? We don’t treat folks differently because of eye color. We don’t treat folks differently because of hair color. (ok, maybe we tease the blondes more) I had a non-white best friend in grade school…perhaps that is what set my foundation for not perceiving skin color to be more than an individual’s physical trait.
