I recently went to the mom-and-pop car dealership to make a payment on my loan. The guy who works there saw me walk up and asked if I was there to make a payment. I said yes, so told the black couple he’d been talking to that they could keep looking at the vehicle they were interested in while he went inside with me to take my payment. Did he do that because (a) he recognized me as an existing customer, (b) he knew I was likely there to make a payment and it would be quick or (c) I’m white?
