Did you know your neighbor’s black?

This is what my mom asked me after we bought our first house. She drove by to see it before we moved in. She called me and the first thing she said is “did you know your neighbors are black?” It was shocking to understand that she was actually concerned because they are black. As if skin color makes you a criminal. I think a lot of older white people still think that way and it’s sad.
