Erin.
Race was something I didn’t need to think about or worry about growing up, because it didn’t seem to exist. I say this because I grew up in a rural town in Minnesota. I don’t remember seeing non-white people in my town until I was 15 and became friends with a Black family through community theater. Looking back, I wonder how many microaggressions I expressed towards them without even knowing it, and feel awful about it. I wish I’d had a more diverse upbringing… I think it would’ve helped start my journey to allyship and antiracism a lot sooner. But here I am, now, with work ahead of me.
