In today’s world we have been discussing race more often than ever. We hear of “black man shot a white man” OR “White man hit a black woman”.. it is never “A Man hit a woman” or “Man shot by another man”.. Why are we addressing someone by color or nationality? I was raised to never judge a book by its cover and don’t call someone BLACK or WHITE! That’s not polite. You treat people the way you want to be treated, no matter where they come from or what color their skin is. Why are we not following that rule of thumb anymore? What’s wrong with living by that motto? Some may suggest “she is blind to color because she is white and raised with White Privilege, that isn’t true either. I grew up in a black household for the majority of my childhood and they taught me the same principles about race as my biological white family. Now fast forward 35 years, I’m left in a state of confusion.
I recently was waiting in line outside a doctor’s office and was told by “2 black women” (Since now we address color), to “Turn your white self around before they make me turn around”. What did I do to deserve this? I’m white? The world we are living in today is completely racist and of all colors and nationalities. How are we going to fix it you ask? STOP talking about race and let’s treat each other with respect. STOP pointing fingers and let’s use our voices to make a change in this world and in this country. I for one, love America and want nothing more than for everyone to be treated equally and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get us there. UNITY is the solution, not divide.
