The model minority myth has been particularly harmful to the Black/Latinx communities. Asians are used as a scapegoat to tell our Black and Brown brothers and sisters that all it takes to be successful is to pull yourself up by your bootstraps, when that is simply not true in the wake of the oppression of white supremacy and systemic racism. It has also been used as a tool to oppress those of Asian descent to inhibit us from expressing our dissent. I want to declare that “I am not your model minority” to show that I am outraged for my Black/Brown brothers and sisters. That I will not allow this myth to keep me silent. And that I am all in for the fight for Black/collective liberation.
